UN-Habitat in Kenya hosted the Global Stakeholders Forum to hear from different partners ahead of the United Nations Habitat assembly event. The forum presents an opportunity for the different stakeholders from various sectors to discuss inclusive and effective multilateralism strategies for the promotion of peace and development specifically in the context of housing and sustainable urban development.

Multilateralism in simple terms is an alliance of multiple countries pursuing the same goals. It is based on founding principles such as consultation, inclusion and solidarity. It’s strengths lie in equal rights and obligations for all parties involved.

UN-Habitat Executive Director Maimunah Mohd Sharif said that the forum will serve as a key input in the overall urban agenda reform.

The forum will lay the foundation for much of the conversation at the second assembly. Stakeholders are expected to provide perspectives on housing, climate, prosperity, localization, and crisis recovery which will guide member states in their role of providing policy coherence and recommendations.
